AMCA Responds to RAC Qualification Case for Change

Published: 20 October 2017

The Air Conditioning & Mechanical Contractors' Association welcomed the opportunity to provide a submission recently regarding the future of the Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (RAC) trade qualification.

Delivered as part of the Electrotechnologies Training Package, this qualification is crucial to our members businesses and we take this opportunity to acknowledge the significant amount of work that has been done over several years to ensure that this training package continues to meet the current and future needs of industry.

Whilst the AMCA is supportive of the need to review the qualifications and its units of competency, we continue to have concerns about the impact that the proposed split of the RAC qualification will have on the supply of apprentices for the commercial and industrial market, and on the number of institutions that will can deliver the Certificate IV.

Whilst training outcomes are undoubtedly of primary concern, this submission presents critical issues that we believe have not been addressed by the case for change.
