Maintain Building Essential Safety Measures

Maintain Building Essential Safety Measures
This two-day course introduces the requirements for maintaining Essential Safety Measures in commercial buildings in NSW.

It focuses on activities and responsibilities relating to the inspection, testing and preventative maintenance of fire and smoke control features of mechanical services systems, as required by AS1851.

Delivered across two days, the course covers both theoretical (day 1) and practical (day 2) learning. Attendees will receive up-to-date reading materials, including relevant standards, and will be required to complete assessment tasks relating to course content.

Candidates wanting to complete the course are expected to have relevant mechanical services trade qualifications from a recognised technical institution and a minimum of three years' experience working in the maintenance, commissioning, inspection and testing of fire and smoke control systems.

At the conclusion of the course, students should be able to:

  • Plan and carry out safety tests on key essential safety services in commercial buildings;
  • Coordinate maintenance activities relating to essential safety measures;
  • Identify relevant building codes and standards; and
  • Appropriately document the results of testing, maintenance and faults

Candidates who successfully complete the assessment will receive a Statement of Completion, which is valid for five years.
