Maintain Essential Safety Measures
This two-day course covers all the requirements for maintaining Essential Safety Measures in commercial buildings in Victoria.


It is part of the Master of Refrigeration Program designed jointly by the AMCA and Box Hill Institute and is delivered at the Refrigeration and Climate Control Centre of Excellence.

Who should attend?

The Master of Refrigeration Program is targeted at post-trade Refrigeration and Air-Conditioniong technicians working in the commercial heating, venitlation and air conditioning industry. Learners are best equipped to achieve the course outcomes if they have minimum language, literacy and numeracy skills that are equivalent to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework. It is expected that learners have trade level qualifications or an equivalent level of experience in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning industry.

Why you should attend?

At the conclusion of the two-day course, attendees will have an understanding of the different types of systems, activities and responsibilities required to maintain essential safety measures, including fire and smoke control measures of air handling systems, as well as the statutory obligations of building owners, contractors and maintenance technicians.

  • AS1851: Routine service of fire protection systems and equipment
  • AS1668: The use of ventilation and air-conditioning in buildings
  • AS3666: Air-handling and water systems of buildings - Microbial control 
  • Building Code of Australia
  • Victorian Building Regulations.

This unit is suitable for post initial trade training in the electrical or refrigeration and air conditioning sectors. The skills and knowledge of this unit are to be appropriately applied to buildings constructed pre and post 1994 and post 2004.

Cancellation Policy

The AMCA reserve the right to cancel, postpone or reschedule events and training courses due to insufficient interest or other reasons beyond our control. In the instance that events or training courses are cancelled, a full refund will be given.

Refund Policy

A full refund will be given if the AMCA is notified in writing a minimum of 4 business days prior to the course commencement date. A 50% administration charge will be incurred if the AMCA is notified within 3 business days or less. No refund will be given if the AMCA is not notified of cancellation.
