A new ABCC campaign aims to educate code covered contractors (those that tender for Commonwealth funded building work) on their responsibilities to pay their subcontractors on time and if there are payment disputes, to sort these out quickly and reasonably.
The campaign will also create subcontractor awareness of their rights regarding disputed or delayed payments and how the ABCC can help. Where appropriate, the ABCC will direct subcontractors to state and territory security of payment agencies.
The ABCC has new security of payment information and resources on our website including a security of payment booklet, flyers, a reporting form and a checklist of state and territory security of payment laws.
New mandatory reporting requirements
Following consultation with the Security of Payments Working Group, there are new requirements for when code covered contractors must report payment disputes or delays to the ABCC.
Contractors need to transition to these new reporting requirements by 1 September 2018. Failure to do so will be considered a breach of the Code.
