AMCA responds to QLD consultation on mechanical services licensing

Published: 18 July 2019

The Plumbing and Drainage Act 2018 (PDA) received assent on the 11th September 2018, amending the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 (QBCC Act) to introduce a mechanical services licensing framework.

The AMCA submitted a response to the consultation in support of the framework, which will provide greater confidence regarding the competency and scope of work for mechanical services.

We have also recommended a separate Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) for the inclusion of an occupational licensing structure for Refrigeration and Air conditioning operatives.

The government intends to minimise the impact to industry of these changes by proposing arrangements that would enable sufficient time for all tradespeople to transition into the new licensing regime.

The AMCA will continue to work with the government throughout the implementation of the regime and will keep AMCA members informed of any actions that are required.
