Recently Ashley Robinson, Chairperson for AMCA Queensland, and Adrian Shackleton, Executive Director AMCA Northern Region, spoke with two groups of mechanical services plumbing and sanitary plumbing apprentices on their first day of college at the Service Trades College Australia.
An overview of who AMCA is, what we do, member benefits and our history was discussed with the new sector entrants. Ashley and Adrian also spoke about the benefits of the industry sector the apprentices have joined and some practical life tips on how the apprentices can get the best from their training and time as an apprentice.
The value of planning their career, positive traits to demonstrate as an apprentice and the value of finding good on the job mentors was also discussed. A lot of questions were asked and it was refreshing to see the apprentices genuinely interested in the role the association played as well as how they could learn as much about the trade during their apprenticeship.
Ashley and Adrian are scheduled to speak with all Stage 1 first year mechanical and sanitary plumbing apprentices as well as Stage 8 Apprentices (3rd year) throughout 2021.
