AMCA would like to thank everyone for joining us for the 2021 Michael Barnes Apprentice of the Year Awards which was held at the Hilton Hotel Adelaide on 3 December 2021.

The Award criterion is based on the apprentice’s attitude and desire to succeed. This year we asked finalists to tell us about their journey as an apprentice so far and why they believe they are a deserving winner of this award. 

Thank you to the judges, Peter Fitzgerald from PD Technology, Mike Jeffery from Elec Mech Services, Nick Burston from TAFE SA Tonsley. The judges had a difficult decision as all the candidates were extremely worthy and knowledgeable about their trade and showed great potential within the HVAC industry. AMCA would like to thank and congratulate all our member companies for continuing to invest in the future of our industry by employing and teaching young people.

AMCA SA were pleased to have Minister for Innovation and Skills, Hon. David Pisoni MP attend the night to recognise the achievements of HVAC apprentices.

Additionally, guests heard from Dr Hu Kim Le who is a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist, specialising in video gaming addiction or “gaming disorder”. Kim discussed the obsession with gaming in young adults and spoke about the great infrastructure achievements upcoming in South Australia.

Mark Bickley a former Adelaide Football Club player, captain, and assistant coach dived into his personal experiences, on what leadership looks like and how to bounce back from inevitable setbacks.
